- 'Clair de lune' (English 'Moonlight') is a poem written by French poet Paul Verlaine in 1869. It is the inspiration for the third and most famous movement of Claude Debussy's 1890 Suite bergamasque. Debussy also made two settings of the poem for voice and piano accompaniment.

“Clair de Lune” is one of the most famous compositions for piano solo by Claude Debussy, which is part of a suite inspired by Paul Verlaine’s poems. And also in this song I can feel the influences of Liszt, but also that of Satie with her Gymnopedies, that is a very strange thing for such kind of music like that. “Clair de Lune” means moonlight in French and this is the title of a poem by Verlaine that inspires this music full of mystery emblem of French Impressionism. Debussy said that guitar is like an harpsichord but more expressive, so playing this song with classic guitar is great I think.
